I always loved running... it was something you could do by yourself,
and under your own power.  You could go in any direction,
fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it,
seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet
and the courage of your lungs.  ~Jesse Owens

Runners just do it - they run for the finish line even if
someone else has reached it first.  ~Author Unknown

The ideas about running in the quotes above can also be applied to learning.  What if we felt about learning the way these individuals feel about running?  What if we could take our learning in any direction, at our own speed, seeking new knowledge on the strength of our own will and determination?  What if competition was taken out of learning, and it didn't matter who was doing what -- it only mattered that we had a goal and we kept working towards it?

Below you will find folders with resources from my eMINTS Winter Conference 2011 session, Differentiating Professional Development, where we take a look at how PD providers can help participants learn in their own way until they reach their goal.

(A note for those of you who attended the session:  I have now uploaded the Word documents as .doc if you have an older version of Office.  If you need it in .rtf format, just email me and I can send it to you.)

Disclaimer:  I am not a Differentiated Instruction expert.  I attended a week long "boot camp" at my district on DI from Cindy Strickland.  She is the expert.  These are ways that I have taken the strategies our teachers are using with students and tried to adapt them to use as a trainer with my teachers.
